Aftermarket/Warranty Technician

Job Description

Position Title:Aftermarket/Warranty Technician
Department:Aftermarket Engineering
Location:Farmington Hills, MI

Job Summary

This position will be responsible for providing technical support to customers, the Light Vehicle Aftermarket Engineering Department, and other internal departments.  Support provided includes tasks related to reverse engineering, development, and validation of Gabriel product as well as technical and installation support to customers through our Technical Support Call Center (Answerman).   This position also will also provide support to the Quality Engineering team by testing and inspecting shock absorbers.

Principle Responsibilities

Aftermarket

  • Dimensional Inspections of components and assemblies
  • Benchmark and Test Sample procurement and cost tracking through both Internal Gabriel Distribution Center and External suppliers such as Automotive Dealers and Automotive Aftermarket Part Retailers
  • Technical Support Call Center (Answerman) duties i.e. assist callers for frequently asked questions regarding catalog, installation and troubleshooting all application questions.
    • Support Quality in the pursuit of providing world-class customer service with 24 hours maximum response time for all issues identified.
  • Responsible for receiving material and logging all packages, inform recipients of packages in receiving area.
    • Log all Aftermarket samples in Inventory Database.
  • Assembly, disassembly, and analyzing of prototype suspension components and assemblies for vehicle fitment and performance testing.
  • Perform vehicle fitment and performance validation including; Shock, Strut, Strut Mount, and Full Strut Assembly Module(ReadyMount) replacement and vehicle maintenance on all Makes and Models of Light Vehicles.
  • Insures the satisfactory functioning of all equipment through regular checks and services.
  • Keeps the workplace in compliance with all safety rules and regulations, both company and federal, in order to establish a clean and hazard free environment.

Warranty

  • Inspect shock absorbers for defects.
  • Test all shock absorbers using a dyno.
  • Ensure quality of product to prevent non-conformances
  • Repacking and shipment of all shock absorbers.
  • Review warranty parts to determine root cause of failure
  • Data collection, preparation and reporting

Competencies

  • Ability to operate vehicle maintenance related equipment such as 2 and 4 Post Vehicle Hoist, Coil Spring Compressor, and Pneumatic Tools in a safe manner following established work instruction.
  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring tools and instruments such as Height Gage, Calipers, Micrometers, etc.
  • Ability to understand Exploded Assembly Prints and Schematics
  • A demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment, to take initiative, to work independently of day-to-day supervision, and to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Makes sound decisions in a timely and confident manner.

Education/Experience

  • 2 Year Technical Degree in Automotive Repair or similar Preferred
  • Hands on vehicle development and/or repair experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Desired Experience

  •  Knowledge of Chassis Systems/Suspensions and Components
  • 2-4 years automotive related experience within an Engineering or Manufacturing Environment
  • General know-how of machining practices and part inspections per print
  • Experience in a ‘shop’ environment (drill press, band saw, sander, chop saw, arbor press, etc.)
  • Ability to interpret Engineering Prints and GD&T
  • Automotive enthusiast
  • A demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment, to take initiative, to work independently of day to day supervision.
